2005 President's Message

15th October, 2005.

"I hope you are coming to this year's 146th Bendigo Show view the events and entertainment provided at the recently upgraded Prince of Wales Showground.

This is our first show using the Exhibition Centre, which will house most of the livestock exhibits, plus a world record shearing attempt, a hair and designer fashion parade and a display of Dohne sheep with an auction of sale animals on Friday afternoon.

Also there will be demonstrations of butchering on how the best cuts of meat are achieved, plus other small displays in this building.

We are grateful to the state government, Bendigo City Council and federal government in providing the funding to support the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society efforts and financial contribution, which together has given this region a fantastic venue to display events such as our Annual Bendigo Agricultural Show.

This building replaces three other buildings, which were named ill honour of past members of the Show Society Committee, namely Hugh Collins, Joe Hamblin and Barry Durston. We will be unveiling plaques in recognition of the removal of their names from the buildings, which have been demolished.

We will also be recognising the Beryl Tait fund with a plaque in gratitude of the money made available to upgrade the horse stables complex.

These improvements are part of an ongoing program to further develop the Prince of Wales Showgrounds to complement all the existing facilities which make it one of the most used grounds in Bendigo.

Most of the existing buildings and walkways are fully utilised during the Show with exhibits of craft, cooking, flowers, needlework, art and other displays, stall holders and food vendors.

There will also be dog and cat shows, horse events and a free circus for the families.

The Society is always grateful of the sponsorship received and this year Sandhurst Trustees has become a major sponsor along with Jetport Parking. The Society has also received in-kind support from the City of Greater Bendigo, and media partners Win Television, The Advertiser, radio stations Star Em and 3BO.

Please come and enjoy the exhibits, displays and entertainment at this year's Annual Bendigo Show.

President,
Bendigo Agricultural Show Society
